NJ's Ringwood State Park: Skylands Manor Roof & Trim Repairs
Professional structural engineering services for façade, roof and trim repair at historic Skylands Manor in Central New Jersey's Ringwood State Park.

The Skylands Manor and its surrounding 96 acres is part of the NJ Green Acres program and serves as the State’s official botanical garden, open to the public. The Tudor-style mansion was built approximately in the 1920s and is a large stone building consisting of a main house and a two-story catering wing. The roofing includes a steeply pitched slate roof with dormers and flat roofs made of rubber roofing material. This historical preservation/restoration project involves the replacement of the flat rubber roofing system and repair of the deteriorated exterior trim.

As part of the overall design team, Gedeon GRC was primarily responsible for the structural investigation and design related to the façade and roof repairs, including preparation of construction documents. Gedeon GRC performed a structural evaluation of the exterior façade utilizing probes and prepared a report that includes observations and recommended repairs, as well as details for repair of the façade. Other work components involved coordination with the design team and State agencies including NJDPMC, as well as compliance with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Restoration of Historic Places.

Gedeon GRC also provided construction administration services, including review of shop drawings and RFI’s, assessment of unanticipated field conditions, and periodic site visits.
