Woodhull Hospital, Brooklyn: New Oxygen Tank Farm
As part of a New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (H+H) emergency project, Gedeon GRC Consulting provided site/civil and structural engineering services to assist H+H with a much-needed larger oxygen tank storage system at the Woodhull Hospital facility located in Brooklyn, NY.

The fast-track project consisted of the replacement of the existing oxygen tank with a new increased-capacity tank farm. The project included design of the concrete pad and rehabilitation of the masonry retaining wall adjacent to the tank site. Special consideration was given for the installation and crossing of utilities by the proposed underground oxygen piping from the new pad to the building.

Gedeon GRC was responsible for the site/civil and structural engineering design aspects including site demolition and restoration as well as all required infrastructure and site work to support the new tank system. Work also involved overall project management and supervision for the geotechnical engineering, including borings and soils analysis, as well as surveying work. Coordination between the tank vendor, hospital staff, and construction crews for the phasing and sequencing of the site construction activities was an important aspect of the project so that the hospital operations were not adversely affected in anyway.

In addition, Gedeon GRC assisted in gaining the permits for construction and performed construction support services including field inspection and construction administration services involving response to RFI’s as well as submittal and shop drawings review.
