On Thursday, October 16th, our Director of Construction, Landry Philémy, P.E., and Human Resources Safety Coordinator, Philip Romeo, conducted a site walk and safety audit of the Meadowbrook and Wantagh Parkway Drainage Enhancement Project in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Seeing the scale and complexity of this work up close was a powerful reminder of how critical resilient infrastructure is to community safety.
This project is designed to tackle persistent flooding challenges by:
- Installing pump stations to drain low points under Merrick Road and Bay Parkway
 - Rerouting drainage lines and adding check valves to improve flow
 - Installing tide gates and coastline structures to protect against coastal storm damage
 - Dewatering soggy shoulders with underground drains
 - Raising roadway profiles to prevent future flooding

These enhancements will help safeguard the communities of Merrick and Freeport from the increasing threat of coastal storms—ensuring safer, more reliable travel for thousands of New Yorkers.
Proud to be part of a team that’s building resilience where it matters most. Check out the full post to see how we’re tackling storm resilience in Nassau County—and feel free to like, comment, or share your thoughts!
